As a member of the Blanket Fort Hope Board of Directors, I understand and agree to the following expectations:

1. Mission & Governance

• Understand, support, and advocate for BFH's mission of restoring child survivors of human trafficking

• Exercise fiduciary responsibility: review and approve budgets, financials, and major organizational decisions in the best interest of BFH

• Attend board meetings regularly and come prepared, having reviewed materials in advance

• Serve on at least one board committee and actively contribute to its work

2. Board Recruitment & Development

• Help identify and recruit qualified individuals to join the board who bring needed skills, networks, or perspectives (legal, financial, fundraising, faith community, lived experience, etc.)

• Support the onboarding of new board members, helping them understand BFH's mission, programs, and governance structure

• Participate in ongoing board education to strengthen understanding of fiduciary duties and effective governance

3. Leadership Succession

• Support planning for continuity in board officer roles (Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer, Secretary) and committee leadership

• Help ensure no single leadership role is dependent on one individual, by identifying and developing future leaders from within the board

• Participate in succession planning conversations as needed, including those related to executive leadership continuity

4. Fundraising & Ambassadorship

• Make a personal financial contribution to BFH annually, at a level meaningful to the individual

• Actively support fundraising efforts — through personal giving, introductions, attendance at events, or direct solicitation

• Serve as a public ambassador for BFH's mission in the community

5. Conduct

• Maintain confidentiality on sensitive board discussions and organizational matters

• Avoid conflicts of interest, and disclose any that arise

• Act with integrity and in a manner consistent with BFH's Christian mission and values

• Actively contribute as a Junior Board member

• Attend at least 10 meetings per year, prepared to participate and share ideas

• Bring a collaborative, team-first attitude to all relationships

Service & Participation

• Commit to help prepare for and attend the Gala

Fundraising & Advocacy

• Support and understand the Junior Board’s fundraising goals

• Use personal and professional networks to build awareness, sponsorships, and contributions

• Assist in recruiting new Junior Board members

Financial Commitment

• Personally contribute $1,000 annually in support of the mission
